Jordan Spiz'ike was launched in 2006 as a tribute to the long friendship between Michael Jordan and director Spike Lee, whose character Mars Blackmon became the iconic face of Air Jordan advertising campaigns. The name is a compound of the names Spike and Mike. When originally released, just over 4,500 pairs were made and all were donated to the private school Morehouse College where Lee studied.
